Being Prepared

Hi! I just wanted to share with you all a scary experience I had this past week and how important it is to be prepared for all possible situations!

So I was at school on Wednesday and I was in my 9th (last) period class. All of the sudden, the principal came over the loud speaker and announced that we would be in a state of “lockout,” which basically means that we lock all of the doors coming into the school and no one is allowed to enter nor exit the building. The principal did not say that it was a drill which made me think that it most definitely was not a drill.

Turns out there was a police chase right by my school so we had to remain in “lockout” for 4 hours. I didn’t get home until 6pm. I had multiple lows throughout the lockout. Luckily, I had extra juice boxes and fruit snacks in the nurses’ office because I ran out of juice. So I just wanted to give all of my fellow Type 1s out there a friendly reminder to ALWAYS have extra supplies with you – an infusion set, low supplies, etc – because you never know if something will go wrong and if you won’t have access to supplies!
