Hi all! I had an interesting experience this week that I thought I would share with you all. I usually wear my insulin pump infusion site on either my legs, stomach, or lower back. However, I decided to put it on my arm to change things up a little bit because I was starting to develop scar tissue in the areas that I put it regularly. I put it on Monday night, and ended up drinking six juice boxes (each 24 carbs) throughout the night. The following day, I ran super low as well. My parents and I couldn’t figure out why I was so low because we hadn’t made any basal changes in quite a while. Then, we had a lightbulb. It was the absorption in my arm. Because I rarely use my arm for infusion sites, the absorption for the insulin was so much better there. We did some major basal adjustments for just the time that I will have the site on my arm, and I am doing much better now with fewer lows. But the moral of the story is, if you are going to try a new place for infusion sites, just be aware that the absorption may be significantly better!
